Daphne Skinnard

Currently Assistant Editor at BBC Radio Cornwall, working on the day-to-day running of the station, programming, staffing issues and overseeing campaigns such as the BBC Radio Cornwall Appeal Fund, ‘Sea Sense’, a sea safety initiative working with the RNLI and the BBC Cornwall support of the Precious Lives Appeal. I have been with the BBC for more than twenty years and during that time have travelled the length and breadth of Cornwall speaking to fascinating people, recording interviews, presenting programmes and broadcasting news. I have also worked in television, presenting news bulletins and pieces for BBC Spotlight. For me, my greatest achievements at work have been supporting the Sunrise Appeal when BBC Radio Cornwall listeners raised more than £600,000 for the new oncology centre at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and raising awareness for the Precious Lives Appeal to build a hospice for Cornish children and their families.  I am involved in all aspects of Cornish life, from being a trustee of the Cornwall Community Foundation, to sitting on a fundraising committee for Macmillan Cancer Support. I am also a Governor of Truro and Penwith College. I was born into a Cornish family with roots in South East Cornwall. I am the mother of two children, I adore music and singing. I am a season ticket holder at Plymouth Argyle Football Club, I am learning to speak French, I enjoy cooking for family and friends and am passionate about the Cornish coast and countryside.
