Cornwall Glass Fund
The Cornwall Glass Fund is a fund run in partnership between Cornwall Glass and Glazing Ltd and the Cornwall Community Foundation. Cornwall Glass and Glazing Ltd set up a named fund with the Foundation in 2009 to support community and social cohesion in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The fund sets priorities each year and for 2017 the fund will concentrate on supporting organisations/projects that:
Assist young people in achieving their ambitions
Improve the lives of those with mental health conditions
Improve the lives of those with a disability.
Grants range from £500 to £1,500
The Cornwall Glass Fund will not fund Professional fees, travel expenses or core costs of an ongoing project.
BF Adventure was awarded £800.00 in June 2014 from the Cornwall Glass Fund, towards the purchase of two identical canoes.
BF Adventure, based in Penryn use outdoor activities to build self-esteem and confidence, and develop social and thinking skills. They work with young people with physical and learning disabilities as well as disadvantaged and disaffected young people who are excluded from school, assisting them back into education or a work placement.
Currently their fleet of canoes are used by approximately 2,000 young people along with their 15 British Canoe Union Coaches. The funding enabled them to purchase two identical canoes. These rugged, low maintenance canoes provide maximum stability when rafted together, which is perfect for those participants who use wheelchairs, as they are able to access the water safely via a hoist when the two canoes are linked together. They aim to grow the overall number of participants who share this opportunity as the old fleet of 12 canoes are replaced.
The canoes were used for the first time in the October half term and the first one purchased was aptly named “Glass Fund Canoe”
Adrian Richards, Chief Executive commented ‘the funding of two identical canoes from the fund has made a huge difference to us as we have struggled to raise the finance to replace our worn out fleet of boats, with the replacement boats we can confidently take the full range of our clients out and onto the water, including individuals whom are wheelchair bound ensuring fully inclusive challenging and fun activities for all. The canoes are used on an almost daily basis and each boat will float nearing 400 young people each year’
The Cornwall Glass Fund has one funding round a year.
