Roaming Penzance Winter Exhibition
18 December 2013
The exhibition comprised of the work of more than 20 gifted artists whose work was a pleasure to view. The paintings included oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings, collage and mixed media, and frequently depicted the surrounding land and seascape. The artists also expressed their passion for Cornwall through skillful prints and drawings. The usual comments book was replaced with linocut prints upon which the visitors were invited to write their thoughts and then hang upon the Christmas tree.
Roaming CIC is a practice-led, not-for-profit arts company and facilitated by Laura Wild. The Roaming Penzance group brings people together one day a week through creative activities and to share meals together.
The project provides activities that would otherwise be unaffordable to people taking part in the group and bridges the gap between people who are homeless and those who live in houses by inviting the wider community to their exhibition. The project mostly benefits single men and women, aged 18 - 65 who find themselves disadvantaged, excluded, vulnerable or homeless.
Close to a hundred different individuals have been to the group one or more times during the last two years since the arts company was established.
Laura Wild facilitator said: The exhibition has been enormously encouraging for everyone currently involved at Roaming Penzance and a great opportunity for us to remember all the many people whom we still consider part of the group but who have moved on.
The project is directed by Roaming CIC Directors: Laura Wild, Revd Andrew Yates, Dr Nancy Roth and funded by the Cornwall Community Foundation, the Cornwall 100 Club, as well as charitable donations from Pennon Group plc and individual supporters. Transformation Cornwall provides advice and St.Petroc’s Society provides the premises.Back
