Cornwall Club in the Tate Britain
14 March 2014
The inaugural event of the Cornwall Club was held at the Tate Britain on St Piran's Day, Wednesday 5 March. The Club is for all those who live or work outside Cornwall and want to join us to sustain a thriving community in Cornwall.
The Cornwall Calling event, hosted by Invest in Cornwall, a project of Cornwall Development Company and the Cornwall Community Foundation, was extremely well attended with over 230 guests to celebrate the vision, creativity and innovation that is Cornwall, in the most stunning surroundings.
The assembled audience were welcomed with a few words from Mark Osterfield (Tate St Ives) and Chris Pomfret (Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership)
Rob Love from Keo Films and River Cottage then extolled the virtues of living and working in Cornwall, with an engaging film highlighting the range of industries based in the county. Finally, driving supremo Andy Green took to the stage, and held the audience spellbound as he described his plans to break the land speed record in the Bloodhound Supersonic Car, due to be tested at Newquay Aerodrome in 2015.
The evening was compered by the inimitable Petroc Trelawny, and guests enjoyed Proper Cornish pasties, beer and wine kindly supplied by St Austell Breweries and Camel Valley.
As a result of the event we now have a solid foundation to move the Cornwall Club forward, with several guests volunteering to be part of a London committee.
