HSBC volunteers help local communities
4 April 2014
A group of dedicated volunteers from HSBC’s Plymouth and Cornwall branches helped the Church Committee at Grampound Road to decorate the church on 2 April. The Methodist Church is used by the community for a wide range of activities. The volunteers painted the large community room, where parish council meetings are held, the Sunday school and the vestry. In addition they weeded the area surrounding the church building.
Helen Marks, Plymouth and Cornwall Area Director of HSBC, said, ‘I am delighted that HSBC is able to support the Cornwall Community Foundation, it is great for our team to volunteer and make an impact in the local communities.’
Richard Truscott and Ron Murphy, committee members, assisted the volunteers throughout the day and the church committee provided all the necessary equipment, materials and a pasty lunch. Ron Murphy Property Steward said ‘After a totally unexpected offer of help, arrangements were made and a date agreed. Now the day has come and gone, with all the work satisfactorily carried out in such a friendly manner that we can be sure all the volunteers had a happy as well as a very productive day.’
The Cornwall Community Foundation helped to organise the volunteering as HSBC is a member of CCF’s business club the Cornwall 100 Club.Back
