11 June 2014
The Savills Regatta 2014 at Mylor Yacht Club was a record occasion – with the highest number of entries, and the largest donation to charity, in its eight year history.
The open competition attracted 41 entries for races around courses in the Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay for IRC/PY Yachts, Multihulls, Shrimpers and Falmouth Working Boats
All entry fees were donated to the Cornwall Community Foundation, which received a cheque for £1,025 that was presented to its chairman the Hon. Evelyn Boscawen by Jonathan Cunliffe, Director of Savills Truro.
Mr Cunliffe, an experienced yachtsman who has sailed in a number of world championship events, said: “As in previous years, the Regatta has been a great occasion for excellent racing and for meeting with friends, colleagues and clients, and to be able to raise money for charity and see it stay in Cornwall has been an added bonus."
“Savills Truro is a member of the Cornwall 100 group of businesses that came together to support social responsibility at a grass roots level. It is a pleasure to be able to make a donation to a local charity at the end of a day of excellent sailing.”
The Savills Regatta has become an established annual event in the West Country sailing calendar, attracting corporate and private teams to the event which has always been held on a Monday.
This year’s competition not only attracted a record number of entrants, but also a record number of spectators. Two boats instead of the usual one were needed to take guests out to see the racing following a Prosecco and pasty reception at Mylor Yacht Club.
The event is run by property specialists Savills, with the support of co-sponsors Brewin Dolphin Wealth Managers and Country Life Magazine. Additional support for this year’s event was provided by Mylor Chandlery, Pound & Co Surveyors, Wine in Cornwall, and St. Austell Brewery.
The prize giving was sponsored by Ancasta Yacht Brokers, and the Pimms Bar by Helpful Holidays. The crew party in Cafe Mylor, with live music from The Night Tickers, was sponsored by Stacks Property Search.
