The new Papillon Wind Turbine Community Benefit Fund has awarded a total of £4,873 to five community groups within the parishes of St Thomas & South Petherwin. The awarded projects included Tregadillett Community Hall, Tregadillett & District Age Concern, Tregadillett United Church, South Petherwin Emergency Defibrillator Group and South Petherwin Parents Teachers Association.

The CCF administers the fund, which was generated following the construction of the Papillon wind turbine, and a panel of local people decides twice a year which applications are most deserving of support. Grants range from £250 to £1,000, larger sums can be awarded in exceptional circumstances. The fund awards small grants to grassroots, front line, volunteer led organisations who are making a positive impact in their area.

South Petherwin Play Park was awarded £873 towards the installation of safety matting making the play park accessible to local residents in all weathers. Tregadillet & District Age Concern received £1,000 funding towards the outside decoration of the walls, windows and doors of the church and community hall.  South Petherwin Emergency Defibrillator Group, Tregadillett Community Hall and Tregadillett United Church were also awarded £1,000 each.

The CCF administers the Papillon Wind Turbine Community Benefit Fund on behalf of Mr and Mrs Finnimore. Judith Finnimore said “We are delighted to be able along with CleanEarth’s generous Community Benefit donation, to help as many local clubs and projects over the next 20 years.”

Kevin McCormick, Commercial Director at CleanEarth – who installed the Papillon wind turbine, said: “CleanEarth is passionate about supporting local communities and we are delighted that the first round of beneficiaries from the Papillon Wind Turbine Community Fund have been selected.”

The CCF is welcoming applications to the second round of the Papillon Fund.
