CCF supports community fruit growing project with Crowdfunder
5 July 2016
People & Gardens CIC were awarded £500 in support of their Crowdfunder project towards purchasing a fruit cage to enable the group to grow more fruit.
People & Gardens run a vegetable market garden scheme based at Watering Land Nursery, Pentewan, St Austell. They enable people with learning disabilities or emotional impairments to be able to develop as individuals, to learn work and social skills and to have equality of choice and opportunity in the workplace.
The Fruit Growing Project gives opportunities to develop practical skills and self-belief. 27 local people attend the scheme, supported by 9 regular volunteers. They are involved in the full cycle of growing and selling vegetables, from sowing seeds to packing the bags for over 80 local customers.
The new fruit cage will enable them to grow more fruit such as strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants. The cage is designed so participants can easily access the area and get involved, learn new skills and grow even more produce for local customers.
The group hit their Crowdfunder target and reached £1,535. CCF is offering match funding to Crowdfunder projects. Grants of up to £1,000 can be pledged to projects that benefit the community and will be added to the crowdfunding campaigns the community groups are running. The project owner must first meet their crowdfunding target to be entitled to the match funding.
