The Sponsored Firewalk June 2008

A sponsored firewalk was organised and hosted by Janet Peacock at Duchy Hospital, to raise money for the Cornwall 100 Club grants programme, and at 6pm on 20th June, in spite of the rain, some very brave people lined up to stride across the coals. They had a qualified Instructor, and World Record holder for longest firewalk, to assist them, but there was definitely a risk involved! The coals reached a temperature of 400 degrees Celsius so it was a genuine challenge. Teams from the CCF office, Doble Quality Foods, Rosemullion Homes, Pirate FM and of course Duchy Hospital took part. We are pleased to announce that no one was harmed beyond a blister and a total of £4585.57 was presented to Lady Mary Holborow, Trustee, in a celebratory presentation.

‘Duchy Hospital is very proud to be part of the Cornwall 100 Club, which is a corporate philanthropy scheme run by the Cornwall Community Foundation and gives businesses a way to make a real difference to their local communities.’ Sue Thomas, Duchy’s Business Development Manager, explained. ‘We have had several fundraising events but the Firewalk was the most exciting, because it was a personal challenge as well. The money raised will be given to the Cornwall 100 Club Fund and used to make grants to small scale local groups and projects.’
