Shares, Chattels & Property

cornwall community foundationDo you have shares, chattels, property or other assets you want to give?

There are many alternatives to cash giving. If you own shares, chattels or property which you wish to give to Cornwall Community Foundation we can discuss with you how this can be achieved simply and tax efficiently (with expert advice from your Financial Advisor).

Shares: we can either continue the investment of shares gifted to us, continuing to receive dividends (see Investment Committee page), or we could sell them and use the proceeds in various ways such as to create a fund, give grants or towards infrastructure costs. You can claim tax relief on the value of your shares at the rate of the tax paid by the donor e.g. if you pay income tax at 20%, your income tax bill could be reduced by 20% of the value of the gift.

Chattels: as above

Property: depending on the type of property and nature of the gift, this could either be sold, rented with income earned diverted to grant making or our running costs, or put to alternative use. All the above are exempt from Inheritance Tax.
